Welcome Winter On Magical Night-Time Bike Rides

03 November 2015

The dark nights might be upon us but instead of leaving your bike to hibernate why not join Sustrans for a winter wonder ride this November.

As part of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s 'Sound of Light Festival', we are organising a series of night-time bike rides with a difference to ‘Welcome Winter’.

The bicycles will be kitted out with magical LED lighting and audio equipment to play music as you cycle through the streets of Strabane on 17 and 18 November.

Ross McGill, Sustrans North West Area Manager said: “The rides will be quite a spectacle with the bikes decked out in purple, blue and white lights. These free community bike rides are open to anyone who can ride a bike. They will be slow led-rides just for fun through quiet residential streets. We want to encourage local communities to take part or come out and support it.”

The led-rides have capacity for up to 60 cyclists each night and are family-friendly events, suitable for all ages and abilities. If you would like to join one or both of the rides please register online at www.sustrans.org.uk/events/sound-light-rides-strabane

The winter night rides are a Go explore with Sustrans event to celebrate 20 years of the National Cycle Network. The rides have been funded by the Arts Council NI and Derry City and Strabane District Council as part of the City of Culture Legacy Fund, with in-kind support from the Department for Regional Development's Cycling Unit.

Event details:

  • On Tuesday 17 November meet at 6pm at Fountain St Community Centre, Strabane (BT82 8JG).
  • On Wednesday 18 November meet at 6pm at Knockavoe School, Strabane (BT82 9EB).
