Young artists invited to exhibit at Youth 19 gallery
08 October 2018
Calling all aspiring young artists! If you love art then Derry City and Strabane District Council in conjunction with the Inner City Trust are inviting you to submit your work for inclusion in a special exhibition as part of the Youth 19 celebrations.
Young people aged 12-24, or those working with the 12-24 age group, will host the collection for two weeks during 2019.
Blane O’Donnell from the Inner City Trust explained the thinking behind the concept. “The Inner City Trust is excited to be able to support Youth 19 by providing a dedicated space for young people aged 12-24 to showcase their talents throughout the year of 2019.
“We’ve had youth exhibitions in the past and they are always lively and full of budding young talent. It will be great to have the full year dedicated to the young people in the City and we’re looking forward to supporting our young local talents.”
Looking ahead to the programme, Council’s Children and Young People’s Coordinator Clare Lynch, said: “Youth 19 is all about celebrating the positive contributions that young people are making to our community, celebrating their talents and recognising their achievements. Throughout 2019 we’ve got an exciting programme of festivals and events, opportunities to learn new skills, have a say in decisions which affect them, and make important decisions on how funding is allocated.
“The arts offer a fantastic channel to promote positive health and wellbeing and also provide future career opportunities - both areas that the young people in the District are telling us are important to them.
“The Youth Gallery is a wonderful way to show our young people that we value them and their work. I would encourage anyone who wishes to host their own exhibition or those working with young people aged 12-24 who would like to host one to complete an Expression of Interest.”
Anyone who would like to take part can register their interest at www.derrystrabane.com/youthartexhibition before Monday 15th October 2018. Visit www.youth19.com to find out more about the rest of the Youth 19 programme and opportunities.
