Younger residents express views for Community Plan

10 September 2015

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Elisha McCallion has launched the first in a series of Community Planning information sessions tailored specifically for young people.

The aim of these information sessions is to determine what young people want to see included in the strategic Community Plan. The first event, which took place in Glenview Community Centre captured a range of views and opinions from the younger audience of the Council area.

The Mayor outlined her delight at the attendance for the first information session and stressed the importance of continued engagement with the younger residents of the Council.

She said: “The Community Plan is the key focus for our Council and we want to ensure we are including everyone’s views when the document is drafted. Much of the desired outcomes will be focused on the long term so the younger audience will ultimately benefit most from this process so their input is critical.”

The Mayor added that young people will have multiple opportunities to get their views across, not just by attending these information sessions. “We’ve created a detailed action plan specifically for children and young people to voice their opinions, the various events taking place will be communicated as and when they’re coming up. In the coming weeks we will be announcing further engagement activities specially for the engagement of children in the development of the Community Plan.”
