Rural Markets

To aid in the recovery of local businesses following COVID lockdowns, Council has been awarded funding from The Department of Communities (DfC) and Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) to deliver two rural markets. A quality market offering can create a destination based appeal to shoppers whilst adding to the current retail offering. It can also bring footfall to the area that doesn’t normally receive much. Both markets have been organised with family friendly entertainment and live music programmed for the duration of the day.

Derry City & Strabane District Council (DCSDC) welcomes applications from local individuals and businesses who are interested in taking part in these markets. Our main aim is to deliver a varied product offering whilst complementing existing businesses rather than competing with, therefore each application will be assessed individually whilst taking existing businesses nearby into account.

Preference will be afforded to:

·     Local businesses/ individuals registered at an address within DCSDC Region

·     Produce/ products that are handmade/ handcrafted/ hand reared.

·     Goods created/ sourced locally (within 30-mile radius of market location)

·     Offerings not directly competing with existing businesses within the vicinity.

·     Traders that are able to demonstrate how their business is environmentally friendly and sustainable measures implemented whilst trading.

Spaces for both markets are limited and competition from applicants is expected to be high. There can be no sub-letting of space, however applications are welcomed from traders who wish to share a stall with another trader. If this is the case, a joint application must be submitted
