Peace IV Tourism Project
PEACE IV Peace Tourism
Natural Connections: Peace IV Peace Tourism Project
There are a number of council lead projects under the PEACE IV programme including Natural Connections: Peace Tourism project which fits within the Shared Spaces and Services priority area.
The aim of this project is to bring together Protestant, Unionist or Loyalist (PUL), Catholic, Nationalist or Republican (CNR), Black, Minority or Ethnic (BME) community, cultural and historical tourism, mainstream tourism and specialist facilitators in the good relations field to produce, pilot and promote 'Peace Tourism' experiences suited to local, national and international demand.
These experiences will promote local opportunities and expertise to explore issues of conflict and reconciliation, and seek to bring sustainability to those provider organisations engaged with it.
Among the objectives of the overall project is allowing the DCSDC area to position itself as a place for community, local, regional and international field trips and residential and training/awareness experiences for the benefit of dialogue and peacebuilding.
To assist in the facilitation of development of the tourism experiences different elements of capacity building have been addressed through a development programme for our community – led tourism providers, to help them build capacity in terms of marketing, development of infrastructure within venues, and more.
Currently, we are working on developing experiences which can highlight these venues and organisations and help them tell their story.
The development fund will support either:
Delivery of a key action in the current DCSDC Tourism Plan – A New Level of Ambition 2018 - 2025 linked to History and Heritage
Assist in the development of a current Community Tourism Experience or strategy within the Derry City & Strabane District Area (this can include for example marketing resources, equipment, lighting, access).
NB No Vocational Training, Signage, overhead, salaries/staff costs or travel can be applied for under this fund.
Development will be supported up to a maximum of £2,500 ex VAT and all financial spends for the proposed development must be spent and vouched by April 2020.
Closing date for receipt of the applications is 12noon 11th October 2019
