Dean Armstrong

My name is Dean Armstrong from Omagh. I have been tying flies for over 25 years, first learning from my good friend Joe Mcdonald when he still worked in Andersons shop and then from Peter Kealey and books from Omagh library.

Over the years prior to Youtube I have tried my hand at all sorts of flies but always come back to Tying salmon flies. In recent years I have received a reputation for tying big tubes flies for destination anglers heading to Norway and Russia where they have caught some very big fish with my flies. For my own use I try to recreate the feeling of the Old classic style flies but using modern hooks and materials. I have contributed to several of the UK magazines with these styles of flies and so that is what I shall be demoing at the Melvin show.
