7 days to WHM 2019
I'm sitting writing this on a beautiful sunny, Sunday morning, after a 2 hour walk around the banks of the Foyle...absolutely glorious, great to be alive!! Its 7 days to WHM 2019 and hopefully the weather gods will be kind again , maybe a little more cloud cover but dry with a gentle breeze will be very acceptable.
Our course is brilliant but definitely needs benign weather to bring out the best in both participants and spectators, so fingers crossed no wet and windy conditions next Sunday.
Enjoy this week, take it easy, give your legs a break and they will thank you for that when the start gun goes on Sunday morning in Ebrington. All the hard work has been and even if it hasn't there is no point in trying to squeeze in extra miles this week. Getting to the start line fresh and eager to run is essential, so take all your rest days, run easy and not too far this week, pamper yourself on Saturday, get a good night's sleep and you will be all set Sunday morning.
Lay out your race day gear on Saturday and plan how you are getting to Ebrington in good time for the start. Best to get dropped off close to the Peace Bridge and walk across. Imagine yourself running across it a few hours later, heading for the finish, tall , strong and filled with self belief, taking in the moment and the support of the marshals and spectators.
We will have around 2000 participants again this year including 3 good Wheelchair racers, Karol, James and Jim, keep an eye out for them and a couple of assisted W'chair guys, Danny and Diddler, around 80 relay teams and the big mass of full 13.1 mile runners from the really quick guys up front thru to the 3 hour plus participants.
What a spectacle is in store and our Marshals, Water Station personnel, First Aiders and race officials will be on hand all the way to ensure all goes well. The Foyle Arena staff will also be in place to welcome everyone and remember the post race refreshments are FOC back in the Arena sports hall. Come back there post finishing for some good food 7 drinks and a bit of craic about how your race went.
And we have at least 2 Music Boost stations on the course and possibly some Drummers at strategic locations to boost any flagging spirits .
All the very best to each and everyone of you, have a good one!!
