The ceramic sculptures created by local craft producer Niamh Fahy Illustrative Ceramics is just one of the ceramic producers who will be showcasing her work at this year’s annual Guildhall Craft Fair that takes place from tomorrow, Friday 10 to Sunday 12 November.
Organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council, the Guildhall Craft Fair brings together over 40 high-end craft producers and exhibitors from across the island of Ireland to showcase the best of local and regional craft produce and sell a wide range of contemporary and traditional gifts and products. The Craft Fair marks the start of the City and District’s hugely exciting Christmas campaign and is one of the most popular events in the events calendar renowned for its unique setting and array of high-end products.
Niamh Fahy is one local producer who will be part of this year’s event showcasing our unique range of ceramic sculptures which have been hand built from rolled earthenware clay and slab built into a 3D sculpture before being individually designed and then bisque fired in a kiln and then glazed.
She is delighted to be exhibiting her work in her home town and believes participation in the Guildhall Craft Fair will help her to develop her product into new markets.
“I’ve always been involved with art and craft from my degree and selling paintings to galleries as well as studying illustration and teaching recreational art. I first bought a small kiln in 2014 and that was when I started selling my ceramic work as a business in 2014. I currently sell my work in Walled City Crafters in the Craft Village, Derry. Being part of the Craft Fair in the Guildhall is a great opportunity for me to illustrate my ideas in a fresh way.
The Guildhall Craft Fair runs from 10-12 November and opening times are Friday (12 noon to 7pm), Saturday (10am – 6pm) and Sunday (11am – 6pm). Admission fee is £1 per adult and free for children under the age of 14. A series of workshops, music and events are also programmed over the weekend as part of the Christmas festive experience. New to the offering this year is the addition of a small number of food stalls on the ground floor that will enhance the overall festive experience.
Helena Hasson, Events Co-Ordinator with Derry City and Strabane District Council encouraging the public to come along and support the event, says the Guildhall Craft Fair marks the start of the city’s unique Christmas celebrations and is the ultimate festive experience for locals and visitors.
“The Guildhall Craft Fair is an amazing event – it officially marks the start of Christmas and is the perfect opportunity to pick up some unique gifts and crafts. We have everything from textiles, ceramics and jewellery to glassware and homemade fudge and cakes, to candles, knitwear and paintings.”
