Strabane Christmas Lights Switch On
13 November 2017
Christmas will officially begin in Strabane when the festive lights are switched on by a ‘very special guest’ in Abercorn Square on Saturday 25 November from 2pm-5:30pm.
‘Santa’ will be making the long trip from the North Pole to visit the town – and Mayor of Derry and Strabane Council, Councillor Maolíosa McHugh, is encouraging everyone to join in the festive fun and experience the magic of Christmas at this year’s lighting ceremony.
Mayor McHugh said: “I am delighted that Santa is taking the time out of a very busy schedule to visit Strabane and usher in the start of this year’s festive celebrations!
“The ‘Christmas Lights Switch On’ is a great family event which marks the start of a fantastic festive campaign that includes the Strabane Christmas Fayre and the Lost in Frost mayoral initiative for families at the Alley.
“Santa and his reindeers will be on their way to Abercorn Square & Railway Street for the big switch on – so join them from 2pm for face painting, Santa’s Grotto, Community performances, carol singers and much more!
“Indeed, the afternoon’s activities and festive lighting ceremony is a great way for families to count down to Christmas.
“I’m expecting a great turnout – and look forward to welcoming visitors to Strabane in the run up to Christmas.
“Santa has confirmed that he’ll be bringing his famous festive cheer – so make sure that you’re there early and don’t miss out on what promises to be a truly magical occasion!”
