European Youth Capital Bid
In 2015-16 Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) bid to become European Youth Capital 2019 (EYC19); with the aim to develop and showcase, through a multi-faceted programme, its youth-related cultural, social, political and economic life and development.
A youth-led programme was outlined to improve the following areas:
- Youth Democracy
- Education and Skills
- Health & Wellbeing
- Access & Inclusion
- Cultural Programme
Up against tough competition, DCSDC missed out to Novi Sad of Serbia as the winners were announced at the European Youth Forum’s General Assembly in November 2016 in Bulgaria.
Throughout the youth-led European Youth Capital 2019 (EYC19) bid process, Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) listened to the collected voice of young people asking council for support in a number of topic areas; therefore, pledged to support the Youth19 initiative. Working with young people to reaffirm the priorities, council and partners will facilitate and support a series of events and activities, which will:
