Maintenance Matters: Protecting our Historic Buildings at Risk


You are cordially invited to the above seminar taking place on Wednesday 29th March from 9.30-1.30, in St Columb’s Hall, Derry.

The seminar aims to highlight to owner’s/occupants of heritage buildings the importance of carrying out regular maintenance to the external an internal fabric. Carrying out regular maintenance is an important element in the upkeep of heritage buildings, in the interests of preventing any further decline/deterioration and assist in preserving and protecting our historic fabric. The seminar will provide some practical guidance and case studies relating to maintenance of heritage buildings, and by implementing a regular regime of inspections and interventions can assist in preventing historic properties from being added to the Heritage at Risk Register for Northern Ireland (HARNI).

Attendees will hear from conservation specialists, statutory and regulatory bodies and funders who will provide useful advice and guidance to owners of historic properties on topics such as:

· Maintaining & Preventing building from becoming Heritage at Risk

· A case study on the restoration of St Columb’s Hall by St Columb’s Hall Trust, a prominent Historic Building on the Heritage at Risk register, and;

· Accessing Funding.

There will be an opportunity during lunch to network and meet with speakers and other specialist attendees for any specific advice or assistance or one-to-one advice.

The seminar will be of interest to owners and custodians of historic buildings, including those on the HARNI.
