Recycle Week 2018
Recycle Week 24-30 September 2018
Recycle Week is a celebration of recycling and our aim is to encourage everyone to recycle more, by helping people to understand the benefits of recycling items from all around the home and by offering tips and suggestions to make it easier to recycle.
Each and every one of us can make a difference just by making some small changes like using food waste bins, recycling items from the bathroom, rinsing out plastic bottles and cartons before putting them in the blue bin and using local ‘Re-use centres’ like New 2 You in Pennyburn to recycle old furniture.
We are also aiming to raise awareness this year of the huge damage that plastic pollution is causing to our rivers, seas and oceans – which is why we all have to ‘rethink plastic’ and the way that we deal with plastic waste.
Not only is recycling good for our environment but it is also good for local people as it costs a lot less to recycle than to send waste to landfill. Indeed, this is ratepayers’ money that could be better spent on protecting and enhancing other important services like play parks, street cleaning and local events.
