Registering a Food Business

It is the responsibility of all food business operators to ensure that their businesses are registered with the Environmental Health Department at least 28 days prior to opening. This is a legal requirement. Online registration can be completed at https://register.food.gov.uk/new/derry-city-and-strabane  

Registration applies to most types of food business including catering businesses run from home and mobile or temporary premises such as stalls and vans. If you use two or more premises you will need to register all of them

There is no charge for registration. Once registered it is not necessary to re-register unless there is a significant change in the business (such as address change or change of food business operator).


If your premises is to be located within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area you can

Once you have registered with the District Council need you to notify them if any of the following occur:

 - change of proprietor 

 - change of address (or address at which a movable premises is kept)

 - the nature of the business changes

 - closure of premises / business

If the business has been taken over, the new proprietor will have to complete a new registration form, as per the process outlined above.
