The Regeneration

Brooke Park

Derry City and Strabane District Council has been working on the regeneration of Brooke Park since 2000, after a preliminary assessment in November 2000, the Heritage Lottery Fund advised the then Derry City Council to undertake consultation with the local residents, develop a long term management and maintenance plan and obtain professional assistance. Derry City and Strabane District Council obtained stage one funding support from the Heritage Lottery Fund in September 2008 securing an additional £1,450,000 from Heritage lottery Fund in 2012 for the implementation of a Regeneration Master plan.

In 2012 the first phase of the regeneration works began with the removal of the old shale pitches and the children’s playground, neither facilities were considered fit for purpose, a new grassed events area/sports area has now been created.
