Neighbourhood Renewal Programme

Neighbourhood Renewal Programme

The Neighbourhood Renewal Programme is delivered through the Department for Communities (DfC), and targets 36 deprived areas across Northern Ireland, under the People and Place Strategy. Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships have been key to creating local plans to improve everyday life for people in those areas.

Within the Derry City & Strabane District Council area there are five Neighbourhood Renewal Areas (NRAs).  Four located in Derry City (Outer North, Outer West, Triax, Cityside, Waterside) and one in Strabane.

The purpose of the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme is to:

Reduce the social and economic inequalities which characterise the most deprived areas;

Work in partnership with communities to identify and prioritise needs and co-ordinate interventions designed to address the underlying causes of poverty.

The Department for Communities has initiated a review of the People and Place Strategy in 2021, and you can find up to date information and get involved in the consultation here.
