The Mayors Foyle Challenge Swim Instructions

Q: What is the new location of the event?
Following further consultation with Foyle Search and Rescue and Foyle Port, the difficult decision has been taken to move the event to Creggan Country Park for operational and safety reasons.

The Mayor attended a practise swim session in Creggan on Saturday with some of the swimmers and we are confident a successful and enjoyable event can be hosted there this weekend to raise funds for his charities.

Q: When/where will registration take place?
-3k Experienced Open Water: Time 9.00am – 10am
Creggan Country Park – Main Building
-3k Intermediate Open Water: Time 10.00 – 11.00
Creggan Country Park – Main Building
-1k Competent Open Water: Time 11.00 – 12.00
Creggan Country Park – Main Building

Q: When is the mandatory pre-briefing event?
The mandatory pre briefing event will take place on the day of the event at the following times:

-3k Experienced Open Water: 10.15am
at slipway beside water
-3k Intermediate Open Water: 11:15am
at slipway beside water
-1k Competent Open Water: 12:30pm
at slipway beside water

Q: When does the race start?
-3k Experienced Open Water: 10:30am
-3k Intermediate Open Water: 11:45am
-1k Competent Open Water: 12:45pm

Q: Is there parking available?
There will be limited parking available at Creggan Country Park and the surrounding area. We would encourage car sharing where possible.

Please park safely with consideration to local residents and full adherence to parking regulations in the area.

Q: Will there be toilets/ changing facilities?
Toilets, Showers and changing facilities are available at Creggan Country Park, these are limited so, if possible, come race ready.

Q: What are the safety requirements for the event?
-The water temperature will be around 8 degrees- wetsuits are strongly recommended.
-Bright swim caps are mandatory so our safety teams can see you clearly throughout the course. These will be provided as part of your swim pack.
-Tow floats are also recommended, preferably on a short leash.
-Goggles are strongly recommended
-Minimum age 16 ( parental consent required for under 18)
-Medical declaration and waiver must be signed at registration.
-Safety brief is mandatory and will take place before each wave. There will be NO ON LINE or EMAIL BRIEF provided.

Q: Will we have race numbers?
All swimmers will have their race numbers written on back of hand using permanent marker. This is health and safety measure, swimmers will also call their number out at the finish line to record they have finished safely. Please do not leave the finish area at the slipway until you have been signed out by an event official.


Q: Will the event be timed?
As this is a charity event there will be no official times provided.

Q: Will there be prizes?
Each of the three races will have novelty prizes for 1st male & female in each category. All participants will receive a medal and a goodie bag in the hospitality area in the main building at Creggan Country Park.

Q: Will there be a first aid station?
First aid will be available on site at Creggan Country Park.

Q: Post event activities
Following the event there will be refreshments available at main building.
