Welcome to Culture Night 2020
A Sense of Place is something that we have all felt acutely in 2020. Be that our place in time or within the home, our neighbourhood, our community or our world. What has shone through is our instinct to connect and protect, to make things better not just for ourselves but those around us, near and far.
Lockdown brought many of us as close as we have ever been to experiencing life without our social and cultural rituals. Of course for many, due to health, poverty or social exclusion this is their reality all the time. The role our artists, cultural organisations and volunteers play in striving to nurture inclusivity and meaningful connection in our society has always been vital but never more apparent than in these challenging times.
What has emerged is that how, no matter what, we as people will find a way to come together – be it online, across the airwaves, from our window, doorstep or at a distance.
This programme of online and In-venue events brought to you by the arts and cultural community from throughout the Derry & Strabane District, reflects some of the creative ways we continue to Connect through Culture to nurture a Sense of Place for all.
Note on in-venue activity: Please follow individual venue’s advice and guidelines to plan your visit
