4 November 2026

The Deputy Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council paid a special visit to the Samhain Céile at Garvagh Hall as Halloween weekend celebrations got underway.

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Catherine McDaid, joined children from Aghyaran and Castlederg for the Tales & Turnips programme on Friday 30th October. Supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland's Rural Engagement Arts Programme (REAP) and delivered by Derry City and Strabane District Council, the event brought together families and the local community for an afternoon of seasonal celebration.

Children took part in a range of autumn-themed arts and crafts activities before learning Harvest Jigs with facilitator Niamh Browne McGranaghan. The festivities concluded with a special performance and community celebration, marking the start of a packed Halloween weekend programme.
