Appeal issued over anti-social behaviour at Castlederg playpark

Derry City and Strabane District Council is appealing to the public to raise awareness and help combat a rise in incidents of damage and anti‑social behaviour at Castle Park Playpark in Castlederg.
In recent weeks regular cleaning has been required to remove broken glass and other debris from the play area posing a risk of injury to people using the park, which is a popular attraction for families in the area.
A Council spokesperson said: “The Castle Park playpark is an important part of the wider regeneration of the Castlederg area, which has seen significant improvement since the major investment delivered through the Derg Active Project. The park was created to enhance health, leisure and wellbeing for the entire community to enjoy, and it’s very disappointing to see it being treated with such disregard at the expense of the whole community.
“We are asking everyone to be mindful of how many people use the park, and to help ensure it remains a safe, welcoming environment for families. Continued vandalism not only undermines the hard work that has gone into revitalising the area, but it also diverts valuable resources away from other essential services. Every clean up generates a cost to Council and the ratepayer, and that money could be channelled more usefully into essential maintenance elsewhere.”
Council is urging anyone who witnesses anti‑social behaviour in the play area to report it to the PSNI.
