Award-winning Culmore singer Róise Ní Mhurchú to host workshop for Irish Language Week

Derry City and Strabane District Council are inviting members of the public to take part in a lively and interactive singing workshop with acclaimed singer Róise Ní Mhurchú, as part of this year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Language Week) celebrations.
Mo Cheol Thú will take place on Wednesday 4th March 2026 at 5:30pm in the Whittaker Suite, Guildhall, Derry.
The workshop will invite participants of all ages to explore traditional songs and simple melodies through Gaeilge.
No prior singing experience is required, making it an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in Irish language and music to get involved.
Róise Ní Mhurchú is a highly respected singer and multi-instrumentalist from Culmore, at the foot of the Inishowen Peninsula.
She has strong ties to the Donegal Gaeltacht, where she spent her childhood immersed in Irish language, music and song, Róise has built a distinguished reputation within the traditional singing community.
A multiple All-Ireland Champion in Singing and Lilting, she is the current Senior All-Ireland Lilting Champion.
She was awarded a silver medal in Irish Singing Under 35 at Oireachtas na Samhna in 2023 and received a nomination for ‘Young Star of the Year 2025’. Now based in Belfast, Róise is continuing her studies to become an Irish Language Primary School teacher and is passionate about sharing her love of traditional song with new audiences.
Mo Cheol Thú forms part of a comprehensive programme by Council to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge from March 1st – 17th and promote the Irish language across the City and District.
