City of Derry Jazz Festival celebrates 25th anniversary in swinging style

7 May 2026

The curtain has fallen on another unforgettable City of Derry Jazz Festival, as this year’s landmark 25th anniversary edition drew to a close yesterday following an exciting weekend of entertainment.

Over the course of the festival, the city’s streets were filled with the sounds of jazz, swing, blues and soul, as tens of thousands turned out to enjoy an exceptional lineup of local and international artists. From intimate gigs to lively street sessions, there was something for everyone on the programme.

A key factor in the festival’s continued success has been the invaluable support of the local hospitality industry. Hotels, bars, and restaurants all played a vital role in hosting events, welcoming guests and creating the ambiance that defines the Jazz Festival experience.

As the last note sounded for another year the Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Ruairi McHugh, praised the efforts of all involved in making the festival such a success.

“As we celebrate 25 incredible years of the City of Derry Jazz Festival, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this year’s event so special. From our talented performers and dedicated organisers to our local businesses and sponsors, this festival is a wonderful showcase of all this city has to offer.

“Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came out to sing, swing and celebrate with us - you are what makes this festival truly world-class.”

Interim Head of Culture with Council, Jacqueline Whoriskey, also reflected on the significance of this year’s event. “Marking the 25th anniversary of the Jazz Festival has been a proud moment for everyone involved. The energy across the city has been phenomenal, and it’s a testament to the strong partnerships between Council, the hospitality sector, artists and sponsors. We are incredibly grateful to all who contributed to making this year such a memorable celebration, and we look forward to building on this success in the years ahead.”

Plans are already underway for the next chapter of the City of Derry Jazz Festival, continuing its legacy as one of Ireland’s most anticipated and celebrated cultural events.

The City of Derry Jazz Festival is delivered by Derry City and Strabane District Council, with support from Diageo and Share Energy.
