Colourful success as hundreds of local children enters Strabane BID’s ‘Love Strabane Colouring Compe

30 June 2023

Artistic flair was in the air in Strabane following a hugely successful colouring competition between local primary schools and Strabane BID.

Pupils from St Catherine’s Primary School, Strabane Primary School, St Mary’s Primary School, Gaelscoil Ui Dhochartaigh, Artigavan Primary School and St Theresa’s Primary School in Glebe entered the competition with over 1000 vibrant entries.

The competition had four categories, with a winner drawn from each category. Then lucky winners, who all won a fabulous a £50 Strabane Gift Card, were:

  • Nursery – P1 category - Jessica McCrossan, St Catherine’s Nursery
  • P2- P3 category - Conan Doherty, Gaelscoil Ui Dhochartaigh
  • P4 – P5 category - Alex Hamilton, Strabane Primary School
  • P5 – P6 category - Katelyn McLaughlin, St Theresa’s Primary School, Glebe

The aim of the popular competition was to raise awareness of the ever-growing Strabane Gift Card. Parents and guardians were encouraged to support local businesses when thinking of their end-of-term presents for their children’s teachers and classroom assistants.

Michael Kelly, Vice-Chair Strabane BID, said they were delighted to see such amazing interest from the local schools and praised everyone for taking part.

“It was fantastic to see six great schools take such an interest in the competition and show off their artistic flair with over 1000 entries. Unfortunately, we could only give out four prizes but there were plenty of worthy contenders.

“As always, the local community has been a great support to the Strabane BID project and got behind this colouring competition. We wanted to highlight the versatility and reliability of the Strabane Gift Card as a gift idea, particularly at this time of year when parents can be stuck for ideas on what to get their children’s teacher or classroom assistant.

“We have a fantastic array of local shops and businesses in the town where teachers can enjoy a bite to eat or treat themselves to something new. It gives them the power to choose their own gift, something they will really appreciate and use.”

Emma McGill, Strabane Town Centre Development Manager (BID) also highlighted the importance of engaging with the Primary Schools.

“It was really great to see so much positive engagement with our local schools, Strabane BID is passionate about fostering a love local, shop local ethos from an early age so it was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness around that.”

Strabane BID is a means of regenerating Strabane town, increasing football and improving the trading environment. Set up as an independent, not for profit company, the BID board contains representation from businesses and stakeholders in the BID area.
