Community Spirit in Bloom: Mayor Visits Strabane Allotments Project
17 April 2026
The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council enjoyed another successful month of his mayoral initiative engaging with community groups across the various DEAS in Derry and Strabane.
This month, the Mayor visited the Project Me Time group who meet on a Thursday morning at Tullacor Allotments in Strabane. The project brings together people from across Strabane and surrounding areas who have an interest in gardening, growing as well as crafting.
Cllr Ruairí McHugh launched the community-focused initiative last year to recognise and support grassroots community and voluntary organisations throughout the Council area. Speaking about his visit to Tullacor Allotments this week, Mayor McHugh said, “I was thrilled to meet with the Project Me Time community group this week and hear all about the fantastic work they are doing here in Strabane. These community allotments are such an incredible asset to the local area and provide so much, to so many people. I would like to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers behind the scenes who work hard at keeping a place like this running, your hard work does not go unnoticed.”
The Mayor’s programme of community visits is running from October 2025 through to May 2026, with a dedicated focus on a different District Electoral Area each month. The Mayor’s Office, working in partnership with the Community Development team, will liaise with Local Growth Partnership Boards approximately one month in advance to identify and confirm the groups to be visited in each area. Further details will be announced in due course.
