Council issues reminder for 'Call for Sites' to shape Local Development Plan 2032

Derry City and Strabane District Council is reminding landowners, developers, business operators, and members of the public that the Call for Sites process remains open for submissions, with just over four weeks left until the closing deadline.

The 14-week exercise, which launched on 27 April 2026 (see Latest News Item below), will officially close on Friday, 31 July 2026. It forms a vital part of the evidence-gathering process for the Local Policies Plan (LPP), the second and final stage of the Council's Local Development Plan (LDP) 2032.

Through this process, the Council is seeking to identify land within or potentially adjoining each of the District’s 47 settlements that can be realistically developed over the next five to 10 years. Submissions are invited for housing developments, economic development and employment use as well as potential development opportunity sites within city and town centres across the District.

All submitted sites will be carefully assessed against key factors including sustainability, suitability, deliverability, and alignment with the already adopted LDP Plan Strategy.

The Call for Sites informs which locations may be considered further for potential inclusion as zonings within the upcoming draft Local Policies Plan.

Urging stakeholders to submit their proposals before the deadline, Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Cllr Pat Murphy, said: “We have already received a positive response since launching this initiative in April, but we want to ensure that no one misses out on this crucial opportunity to help shape the future layout of our city, towns, and rural settlements. If you are a landowner, developer, or community representative with an interest in land that is sustainably located and ready for development within the next decade, please make your submission before July 31st. Your input is essential to helping us build a balanced, sustainable, and prosperous District."

The LPP Call for Sites documents, guidance notes, and explanatory overviews can be accessed online at: www.derrystrabane.com/callforsites

Submissions can be completed and submitted directly online, or the response form can be downloaded and completed manually. Hard copy forms and documents are also available to collect, by appointment, during normal opening hours at the following Council offices:
