Crowds turn out in force as Strabane celebrate St Patrick's Day in style

Thousands of people celebrated St Patrick's Day in Strabane on Friday as the town's annual parade of dancers, performers and community organisations thrilled the crowds on its way around the town.
Derry City and Strabane District Council, in partnership with local community groups, hosted the event which also featured a comprehensive programme of music, drama and entertainment.
The parade was led by Deputy Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Angela Dobbins, who congratulated all those involved in making the event a day to remember.
"St Patrick's Day is one of the largest scale celebrations of the year in Strabane and I was delighted to see thousands of people sampling the sights and sounds of the parade and entertainment,” she said.
"The festivities are a real community effort with local businesses and organisations working with Council's Festival and Events team to bring the public a diverse programme that appealed to all ages.
"Congratulations to everyone who took part, the performers had clearly worked hard on their costumes and dancing and I was genuinely taken aback by the high standard.”
The event also included live music and arts and crafts in the Alley Theatre, the entertainment was rounded off with live drama courtesy of the Lifford Players who opened the Strabane Drama Festival with their production of When Elephants Collide by Edward Flannagan.
