Easter Tea Dance Brings Community Together in Support of Mayor’s Charities

9 April 2026

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at his Easter Tea Dance in St Davog’s GAC, Aghyaran raising money for his two chosen charities.

The Easter Tea Dance, which took place on Wednesday 8th April, was part of Mayor McHugh’s series of Tea Dances throughout his year in office to raise vital funds for PIPS Charity and Castlederg Patient Comfort and Terminally Ill Fund.

The event saw a fantastic turnout and a warm, lively atmosphere throughout, with many familiar faces coming together to enjoy an afternoon of music, dancing, and great company. Entertainment was provided by Legacy, who proved hugely popular and kept the dance floor full from the start to finish.

Thanking everyone for their attendance and donations, Mayor McHugh said, “I want to sincerely thank everyone who attended and supported the Easter Tea Dance. Your generosity and community spirit have made a real difference to two very important local charities. It was a pleasure to see so many people come together and enjoy such a special afternoon. I would also like to thank the fantastic music from Legacy and all the volunteers at St Davog’s who put on a brilliant day. Events like this highlight the strength of community spirit in the area, and it was encouraging to see such strong support for two very important causes.”
