Frightfully Good Fun as Strabane’s Halloween Celebrations Light Up the Night

2 November 2025

Strabane came alive with spooky spirit and community cheer as this year’s Halloween celebrations drew record crowds for an incredible programme of eerie entertainment, family fun, and a spectacular fireworks finale at the Melvin Running Track. From ghostly adventures to pumpkin-filled festivities, Strabane once again proved why it’s one of the best places to experience Halloween magic in the North West.

The festivities began earlier in October with the return of the much-loved Halloween Hay Bale Trail, which transformed the local countryside into a quirky, creative showcase of Halloween-themed designs. As the month progressed, events took place throughout the district including the community-led Castlederg Apple Fair, which traditionally marks the start of Halloween week and brought with it a taste of local tradition and seasonal treats.

The week that followed offered a packed programme of activities for all ages, including Scary Storytelling at Strabane Library, Teddy’s Haunted House at the Alley Theatre, and a Spooktacular Fun Day at the Riversdale Leisure Centre. For thrill-seekers, the various Haunted Houses across the province provided plenty of frights, while Pumpkin Patches throughout the district gave families the chance to enjoy some wholesome autumn fun.

Festival and Events Manager Jacqueline Whoriskey from Derry City and Strabane District Council said the success of this year’s celebrations was down to the incredible support and enthusiasm of the local community.

“Once again, Strabane showed just how much the town loves Halloween,” she said. “It was fantastic to see so many people turn out to enjoy the events, from the Trick or Treat trails and Parky the Magician to Wacky Witch Winifred and, of course, our spectacular fireworks display. The energy and excitement across the town were amazing.”

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who played a part in making this year’s festival such a success — from local schools and community groups to businesses and volunteers. Their creativity and commitment help make Strabane Halloween a highlight on our events calendar every year.”
