24 April 2024

Global Intergenerational Week is a campaign connecting everyone who is passionate about everything intergenerational. The week will run from 24th April – 30th April 2024 and aims to inspire individuals, groups, organisations, local/national government and NGO’s to fully embrace intergenerational practice, connecting people of all ages especially the younger and older generations.

This year Derry City and Strabane District Council are lighting up their buildings pink to mark the start of Global Intergenerational Week and join in a campaign to bringing together partners from across the world, to celebrate intergenerational achievements from this year, and to work towards another year of intergenerational growth and development.

Derry City and Strabane District Council are working in partnership with Linking Generations NI, to raise awareness of intergenerational work and highlight the campaign which will celebrate good practice, ideas, moments, and opportunities local to us where different age groups come together, and intergenerational friendships can be formed.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Patricia Logue said: “Global Intergenerational Week aims to inspire individuals, groups, and organisations, to fully embrace intergenerational practice, connecting people of all ages especially the younger and older generations. And will join 15 countries from across the globe to celebrate intergenerational good practice. Through the work which Linking Generations are leading on with there are moments and opportunities local to us where different age groups can come together, and intergenerational friendships are formed which is important for all ages in our community. This work is supported by the Age Friendly programme across the council area.”
