Have Your Say event on Strabane Leisure Centre proposals

The Strabane public are invited to have their say on the proposed plans for the new Leisure Centre building at the Canal Basin site in Strabane.

 

Derry City and Strabane District Council has developed draft plans for the leisure centre and is keen invite the public to attend one of the Public Information Event taking place on Thursday 21 May at 10am to 12pm and from 4pm to 7pm at the Strabane Library.

 

The proposed new Leisure Centre forms part of the wider £115m Canal Basin regeneration investment plans for Strabane Town. The new centre, with an 8-lane swimming pool, gym, wellness spa, and squash courts as well as car parking, landscaping and modern features is aimed at delivering world class accessible facilities to meet the health and wellbeing needs of the local community.

 

The leisure centre forms an integral part of the wider Strabane Town Centre Regeneration Project being developed as part of the Derry~Londonderry Strabane City Deal and IFF programme aimed at transforming and reimagining the Canal Basin site in the centre of Strabane through the integration of health, education, leisure, and active travel with the development of a new health hub, NWRC campus and pedestrian bridge. It is a partnership being led by Derry City and Strabane District Council, the Western Health and Social Care Trust, North West Regional College, and the Department for Infrastructure (DFI).

 

Encouraging the public to attend, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh said the new leisure centre was an exciting project for the entire community in Strabane. “It will replace the ageing Riversdale Leisure Centre and provide the community with much needed modern and accessible world class facilities. This engagement event is a genuine opportunity for the community to share their views and ideas and be part of this exciting journey.”

Details of the proposed plans and an online feedback form for recording comments will be available on the website during this period.

 

The Public Information Event will take place on Thursday 21 May at 10am to 12pm and from 4pm to 7pm at the Strabane Library.
