Issued on behalf of Derry and Strabane PCSP
28 November 2025
Derry and Strabane Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) strongly condemns the serious assault on police officers that occurred in the Collon Lane area of the City during the early hours of Thursday, November 27, 2025.
The incident saw one officer stabbed in the leg requiring hospital treatment and stitches, while several other officers were also assaulted.
Alderman Keith Kerrigan, Chair of Derry and Strabane PCSP said: “This violent attack on our police officers is completely unacceptable and deserves the strongest condemnation. These officers were simply doing their duty, working to keep our community safe, and were met with shocking levels of violence.
“Our thoughts are with the injured officers and their families during this difficult time, and we give them our full support. No one should face such violence while carrying out their professional duties.
“This incident highlights the reality of what our police officers face on a daily basis and reinforces the importance of the Police Federation's 'Let Them Protect' campaign. We must all work together as a community to support our officers and condemn those who perpetrate such violence.
“We urge the courts to impose the strongest possible sentences on those responsible for these attacks. Our officers deserve to work in safety, and those who assault them must face the full consequences of their actions.”
The PCSP urges anyone with information about this incident to contact police on 101, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
