Last chance to give feedback on Council Improvement Objectives

26 July 2023

There are just a few days left for the public to give their views on Derry City and Strabane District Council’s recently published draft Performance Improvement Objectives 2023/24.

To ensure the continuous improvement of services that will enhance the lives of citizens in the area, Council is keen to gather a wide range of views on the proposed Improvement Objectives, and any alternatives put forward for consideration.

Part 12 of the Local Government Act (NI) 2014 legally requires Council to produce a Performance Improvement Plan, (setting out Improvement Objectives), that strives towards continuous improvement in the quality of life of its citizens.

A range of objectives have been identified, including mitigating the impacts of cost of living and other price increases on the ratepayers of the district by reducing Council net costs for the 2023/24 financial year by £3.5m, promoting healthy lifestyles by achieving greater participation in leisure, sport and physical activities, as well as a commitment to creating a greener, cleaner and more attractive district and improved customer support services and processes. The objectives are set out on the Council’s website at - www.derrystrabane.com/haveyoursay

Council Chief Executive, John Kelpie, urged people to view the draft objectives and take this last opportunity to highlight anything which may have a positive impact on the lives of local people.

“Derry City and Strabane District Council is firmly committed to regularly reviewing and improving its services to ensure they meet the needs of as many local people as possible. This consultation process presents an opportunity for the public to identify the things that matter to them and ensure these improvements focus on the right areas.

“In the current difficult economic climate the Council is looking at what it can do to mitigate the impacts of the cost of living and is committed to maximising its resources and delivering efficiencies across its services whilst still providing quality public services. We look forward to hearing the views and opinions of the public and would encourage everyone to view the plan and provide their feedback.”
