4 March 2026

The first group of 70 from Limavady Youths Football Club set off to Birmingham with easyJet on Friday 27th February, as part of a series of training programmes hosted by Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. Further groups of young players from Limavady will travel from City of Derry Airport throughout 2026, enjoying the ease, convenience and cost-savings of travelling through their local Airport.

Timmy Dixon, Chairman at Limavady Youths FC, stated: ’Limavady Youths FC is proud to partner with City of Derry Airport, our valued sponsor of the senior team, in this exciting collaboration that supports our youth academy’s ambitious training programmes with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“By facilitating convenient, affordable, and direct flights from our local airport, the partnership allows more young players from across the Northwest to access world-class coaching, competitive matches, and professional facilities. This initiative not only nurtures local talent and opens pathways to higher levels of football but also demonstrates how local businesses can invest in the community for shared success.

“Sponsoring and collaborating with youth football clubs like ours boosts community engagement, promotes positive values such as discipline, teamwork, and aspiration among young people, and strengthens the region’s social fabric. In turn, it drives economic benefits through increased local usage of the airport. We are grateful for this meaningful support and look forward to many more successful trips in 2026 and beyond.”

As a proud sponsor of Limavady Utd’s senior team, it is particularly special that City of Derry Airport will facilitate travel for the youth teams. Steve Frazer, Managing Director at City of Derry Airport expressed his delight prior to the first groups departure on Friday: “We are thrilled

to welcome the young players, coaching team and parents from Limavady Utd Youths, on the first trip to Wolverhampton training camp from the Gateway of the Northwest.

“The series of trips planned reflects Limavady Utd’s level of commitment to youth development and creating pathways for young players to reach their full potential. The training camp provides a fantastic opportunity for our young local talent to develop their skills, build confidence, and experience football in a new environment.

“Travelling from City of Derry makes the journey smooth and stress-free, and we are incredibly proud to offer this convenient air link for our local community and see the future footballing stars of the Northwest take to the skies.”
