2 November 2026

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Grace Uí Niallais, visited pupils at Holy Child Primary School and St Paul’s Primary School and Nursery this week, as part of her Mayoral Storytelling Initiative. During the visits, the Mayor read to pupils and spent time engaging with the children through interactive storytelling sessions designed to promote literacy, creativity and a lifelong love of reading. Speaking following the visits, Mayor Uí Niallais said: "Reading plays such an important role in a child's development and it was a pleasure to spend time with the pupils at Holy Child Primary School and St Paul’s Primary School and Nursery. Their enthusiasm, imagination and love of stories were wonderful to see, and I hope these visits help inspire a lifelong enjoyment of reading."
