Mayor celebrates cultural diversity with PEACEPLUS’s Connect Programme

18 June 2026

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Grace Uí Niallais, enjoyed the ‘Celebrating Cultural Diversity’ event with the PEACEPLUS Connect Programme earlier this week in the Guildhall.

Thanking the Women’s Centre Derry team for the hard work, the Mayor said, “I had a fantastic time celebrating the cultural diversity we have here across the city and district, and I really enjoyed talking with and hearing the array of stories from everyone. These sessions regularly operate as a community hub for women and BAME groups where they can find out information to local resources ensuring they can integrate fully into our local community. Groups like this are crucial if we want our everyone in our communities to thrive whether that’s finding out information about working, volunteering or education. I’d like to say a huge well done and thank you to everyone involved.”

The event was to celebrate the successful 2 year CONNECT programme for local and multicultural women at Women’s Centre Derry that has been funded by PEACEPLUS through the Derry and Strabane District Council Action Plan which is funded through SEUPB (Special EU Programmes Body).
