The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh, has congratulated council staff who have reached important milestones in their Irish language learning as part of this year’s Irish Language Week.
A number of staff members were presented with certificates after taking part in the Fáinne scheme, recognising their commitment to learning Irish through council language classes. Participants achieved a range of accreditations, including Cúpla Focal, Silver Fáinne, and Gold Fáinne awards.
Mayor McHugh praised the staff for their dedication and enthusiasm for the language. “It’s fantastic to see so many staff members getting involved in Irish language classes and taking part in the Fáinne scheme as part of Irish Language Week,” he said.
“The level of interest and commitment shown is very encouraging and reflects the growing enthusiasm for the Irish language. I would like to congratulate everyone who took part and achieved their certificates today. Their efforts in learning and promoting the language are very positive to see, and I wish them every success as they continue their Irish language journey.”
