Mayor hosts special reception for Liam Gallen and the family of the late Danny Gallen

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane, Councillor Grace Uí Niallais, hosted a special reception in the Whittaker Suite at the Guildhall to celebrate the outstanding contribution of the Gallen family to Irish traditional music and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.

During the event, the Mayor presented Liam Gallen with an award in recognition of his exceptional service to Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in Aghyaran and County Tyrone. The presentation also marked Liam's recent receipt of the prestigious 75 Bliain ag Fás Medallion, honouring his dedication and commitment to Aranderg CCE and Comhaltas Thír Eoghain over many years.

The reception also provided an opportunity to remember and honour the late Danny Gallen, whose long service and exceptional contribution to Comhaltas in Aghyaran and across County Tyrone left a lasting legacy. Mayor Uí Niallais presented a commemorative award to Danny's family, recognising his efforts to promote and preserve Irish traditional music and culture. Accepting the presentation on behalf of the family were Donal, Louise, Fiona and Paul Gallen.

Speaking at the reception, Mayor Uí Niallais said: "It was a privilege to recognise the remarkable contribution that Liam Gallen and the late Danny Gallen have made to Comhaltas and to the promotion of Irish traditional music in our communities. Their dedication, passion and commitment have inspired countless people over the years and helped ensure that our rich cultural heritage continues to thrive for future generations."

The event brought together family, friends and members of the Comhaltas community to celebrate a remarkable legacy of service, commitment and cultural leadership that continues to enrich communities across the region.
