Mayor launches Focus School Uniform Scheme at Ráth Mór

1 July 2026

The Mayor of Derry and Strabane, Councillor Grace Uí Niallais, today officially launched the Focus School Uniform Scheme 2026 at Ráth Mór Centre, marking the start of another year supporting local families with the cost of school uniforms.

The Focus School Uniform Outlet will provide affordable school uniforms to families across the council area, helping to ease financial pressures ahead of the new school term. The initiative forms part of a wider programme of support being delivered across the Derry and Strabane Council Area to tackle poverty and address the rising cost of living.

During her visit, the Mayor met with the dedicated volunteers who are central to the success of the scheme, praising their continued commitment and hard work. “I am delighted to see the launch of the Focus School Uniform Outlet here at Ráth Mór,” said Mayor Uí Niallais.

“Initiatives like this can make a real and practical difference to families navigating ongoing cost of living challenges. Ensuring children have access to affordable school uniforms helps reduce pressure on households and supports pupils as they return to school.

“I would strongly encourage families across the council area to avail of this valuable service. This is a fantastic example of the collaborative work taking place to tackle the very real issue of poverty across our communities, and I commend everyone involved for their dedication.”

The scheme is supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council and will continue to grow this year, with pop-up uniform shops planned in the Waterside and Strabane areas to enhance access for families across the district.

This year, the scheme has strengthened its partnerships, working alongside Foyle Network Foundation to better support families in need, and becoming a member of the Northern Ireland Resources Network (NIRN) to promote reuse and a circular economy approach to school uniforms.

The Focus School Uniform Scheme continues to play an important role in supporting local families, ensuring children have access to essential school items while promoting sustainability and community collaboration.
