Mayor launches programme of themed tea dances in support of Hive Cancer Support

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Grace Uí Niallais, has announced an exciting programme of themed tea dances taking place across the Council area this year, with all proceeds supporting her chosen charity, Hive Cancer Support.
The Mayor’s Tea Dances will bring together music, dancing and community spirit at a series of special events taking place in venues across Derry and Strabane, with everyone invited to come along, enjoy an afternoon of entertainment and help raise vital funds for a local charity providing support to people affected by cancer.
The programme will kick off with the Mayor’s First Tea Dance on Wednesday 2 September 2026 in the Guildhall, followed by a Halloween-themed celebration on Monday 26 October. Festive celebrations will continue with Christmas Tea Dances in the Guildhall on Wednesday 2 December and in Strabane on Tuesday 15 December.
The programme will continue into 2027 with a Spring Tea Dance taking place on Wednesday 7 April at St Davog’s Hall, Aghyaran, before concluding with the Mayor’s Finale Tea Dance in the Guildhall on Wednesday 12 May.
Launching the programme, Mayor Councillor Grace Uí Niallais said: “I am delighted to announce this year’s programme of Mayor’s Tea Dances and I hope they will provide wonderful opportunities for people of all ages to come together, enjoy great music and dancing, and have some fun while supporting a very important local cause.
“Hive Cancer Support provides invaluable support to individuals and families affected by cancer, and I am proud that funds raised through these events will help them continue their fantastic work in our community.
“I look forward to welcoming everyone along and making each tea dance a memorable occasion filled with friendship, music and community spirit.”
