Mayor opens Book of Condolence for Amy Doherty

he Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Ruairí McHugh opened a Book of Condolence in the Guildhall this afternoon in memory of Amy Doherty who was tragically killed at the weekend.
The Book of Condolence will be open to the public from 4.00pm today, Monday, 23 March 2026.
For those who are unable to sign the book in person they can do so online via the Council’s website.
Mayor McHugh said the Book of Condolence was an opportunity for the public to express their condolence and grief and show support to Amy’s family and friends.
He said: “I am deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of this young woman, whose life was taken so violently this weekend. On behalf of the people of Derry and surrounding areas, I would like to extend the heartfelt sympathy & condolences to her family and loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time. No words can ease the pain of such a loss, but please be assured that the community stands with you in grief, support, and solidarity. We all mourn together, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. A Book of Condolence in the Guildhall and online provides the local community with an opportunity to come together in compassion, to support one another, and to honour her memory in the days ahead.
The Book of Condolence will be open from 4.00pm and daily from 9am. The book will also be available to sign online from today at Derry City & Strabane - Your Council
