Mayor opens Book of Solidarity for the people of Gaza and Palestine

As part of a Mayoral Initiative, the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Patricia Logue will officially open a Book of Solidarity for the People of Gaza and Palestine today, Thursday 21st December at 10.30 am in the Guildhall.  A book will also be available for signing at the Alley Theatre, in Strabane, as well as an online facility on the Council website.

Mayor Logue encouraging people to sign the Book of Solidarity said it was an opportunity for the public to send messages and support over the festive period.

 

She said: “As we approach the Christmas period and we are focusing on spending time with family and friends I think it’s important that we all take time to consider what is happening in Palestine and in particular the children of Gaza and what they are going through. By making a Book of Solidarity available for signing we are allowing the local community to express their support to the people of Gaza, Palestie.

“Our city and district has already shown its support by attending rallies, vigils and fundraising events so this is another way we can show that we are thinking of them.”

The Book of Solidarity will open at the Guildhall and the Alley from 10.30am on Thursday and will also be available to sign online at - https://www.derrystrabane.com/BOS-Gaza-and-Palestine

It’s important to note that over the festive period the Guildhall and Alley Theatre will have some changed to their opening times. The Guildhall will close on Saturday 23rd December with the last entry at 3pm. It will re-open again on Wednesday 27th December with last entry at 5pm in the Guildhall between the 27th and 30th December. The last entry on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st December will be 3pm.

The Guildhall will be closed on New Year’s Day (Monday 1st January) and will re-open on Tuesday 2nd January as normal.

The Alley Theatre will close on Christmas Eve and will reopen on Tuesday 2nd January at 10am, as well as A space2 café which will reopen on 4th January 2024.
