Mayor recognises terror-ific work of local businesses in Strabane Halloween Window competition

3 November 2023

Strabane town centre embraced the spooky spirit last month as local businesses got involved in this year’s Halloween Window Dressing Competition.

Strabane BID ran their annual competition as part of this year’s Halloween celebrations, encouraging local businesses to dress their windows and add to the ghostly going-ons throughout the month of October.

The town also had their own Instagram-worthy photo area with a designated Halloween-themed photo frame, encouraging visitors to grab a selfie while they hit the shops.

Businesses had the opportunity to win up to £1,000 with the public voting Scoop & Cup in first place, Caffe Milano in second place and Classic Beauty in third place.

Running for many years, the popular initiative has grown over the years with many of the local town-centre businesses getting involved and showcasing their creative visual merchandising skills.

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Patricia Logue, said she was delighted to see the popular competition return for another successful year.

“This has become a really popular competition over the years, something that everyone looks forward to. It entices the entire town, from families to the elderly, to come out and see the brilliant efforts of our local business community in Strabane. Not only does it encourage footfall into the town, but it also gives us the opportunity to showcase the great businesses we have on offer here in Strabane and give them a spotlight for a few weeks.

“It also is a perfect time of year as people will begin to think about Christmas shopping and will remind people that more often than not a lot of those Christmas presents could be bought locally.”

Kieran Kennedy, Chair of Strabane BID, said they were delighted to see the entire town getting involved and thanked the public for coming out to vote.

“We would like to thank every single business that has got involved in our ever-popular Halloween Window Dressing Competition, as well as everyone who has taken the time to cast their vote. As always, it is well-received, and we love to see the buzz and the atmosphere it creates here in the town.

“We love to engage with traders and hear their views on how we can continuously maximise opportunities for them and help in any way we can to drive footfall into the local shopping area. We are very lucky to have a town full of loyal shoppers who appreciate and love to support their local businesses and for that, we are really grateful.”
