Mayor's First Tea Dance Brings Community Together in Support of Hive Cancer Support

The Guildhall was filled with music, dancing and community spirit on Wednesday afternoon as people from across the district gathered for the Mayor's First Tea Dance, the first in a new programme of tea dances organised by the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Grace Uí Niallais, in support of her chosen charity, Hive Cancer Support.

Guests enjoyed an afternoon of live music, dancing and refreshments in the historic surroundings of the Guildhall, with all proceeds from the event going towards supporting the valuable work carried out by Hive Cancer Support for individuals and families affected by cancer.

Mayor Councillor Grace Uí Niallais said she was delighted by the turnout and the positive atmosphere on Wednesday.

"The first Mayor's Tea Dance was wonderful, it was great to see so many people coming together to enjoy an afternoon of music, dancing and friendship while helping to raise funds for a charity that provides such important support within our community.

"I would like to thank everyone who attended, the musicians and entertainers who kept everyone on the dance floor, and all those who helped organise and support the event. The warmth, energy and enthusiasm in the Guildhall made it a truly special occasion.

"Hive Cancer Support makes a real difference to the lives of people affected by cancer in our local communities, and I am very grateful to everyone who supported this event and contributed to that vital work."

The Mayor's Tea Dance programme will continue throughout the year with a series of themed events taking place across the district. The next event will be a Halloween-themed Tea Dance on Monday 26 October, followed by Christmas Tea Dances in the Guildhall on Wednesday 2 December and in Strabane on Tuesday 15 December. The programme will conclude with the Mayor's Finale Tea Dance in the Guildhall on Wednesday 12 May 2027.
