Mayor shares festive breakfast with staff in recognition of year-round dedication

12 December 2025

Council staff at the Skeoge and Strahan’s Road depots enjoyed a warm breakfast earlier this week as a small gesture of appreciation for their hard work and dedication throughout the past year.

Teams from a wide range of operational services were invited to the depots, where Council arranged a catering van to allow colleagues from multiple departments to come together and share a festive breakfast.

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh, joined employees from across the district to thank them personally for their ongoing commitment to delivering essential frontline services.

Acknowledging their contribution, Mayor McHugh said: “It was a pleasure to spend time with staff at Skeoge and Strahan’s Road and to thank them in person for their continued hard work. Their dedication to their roles, often carried out in challenging conditions, ensures that vital services for our residents and businesses remain consistent and reliable.

“These teams form the backbone of our Council. Without their daily efforts, Council simply could not deliver the level of service that our communities depend on. While this breakfast is a modest gesture, it provides an important opportunity to recognise their contribution and to highlight the value of the work they do.”
