Mayor thanks Castle Coffee for generous birthday gesture

The community of Castlederg turned out in force on Friday in aid of a good cause led by local business Castle Coffee, who celebrated five years in business with a fantastic fundraising gesture.
To mark the occasion Castle Coffee generously donated their entire day’s earnings along with additional public donations – an amazing £1,500 - to the Mayor of Derry and Strabane’s two chosen charities: PIPS Suicide Prevention Charity and the Castlederg Patient Comfort and Terminally Ill Fund.Both organisations provide vital, life-changing services within the community, from suicide prevention and crisis counselling to essential care, comfort and dignity for those living with serious illness.
The Mayor, Councillor Ruairí McHugh - a native of Castlederg - joined customers yesterday morning to acknowledge their generosity and took the opportunity to personally express his sincere thanks to the staff.
Speaking afterwards, he said it was a heartwarming gesture that would positively impact on the wider community. “I was absolutely delighted when I heard this week that Castle Coffee were planning this fundraiser,” he declared. “I think it says a lot about the business that they are celebrating their success by giving something back to the local community. And I am blown away by the amount they raised! I want to thank Clodagh for choosing to support my charities, and also thank her suppliers Grove Dairy, Hatter’s Coffee and Ann’s Bakes, for supporting her and donating goods for the fundraiser.
“I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who called in to show their support, whether by purchasing a coffee, enjoying a treat, or making an additional donation. Community initiatives such as this only succeed because of the kindness and generosity of local people. Once again, you have demonstrated the tremendous community spirit that makes our area so special.”
