Mayor urges Oak Leaf fans to consider public transport to All Ireland Semi-Final

6 July 2023

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Patricia Logue, has welcomed the additional bus and rail services announced by Translink to ferry Derry GAA fans to next week’s All Ireland Semi-Final clash with Kerry.

Following the sell-out success of recent quarter final bus and rail specials, Translink has announced that it will operate additional services to help fans travelling to the game on Sunday 16th July at Dublin’s Croke Park.

A bus will depart from Foyle Street Bus Centre at 9.30am, calling at Dungiven and Maghera, whilst a special train from the North West Transport Hub will also run, departing at 08.25am.

“I am delighted that Translink have confirmed these special services that will allow as many supporters as possible to make the trip to Dublin for the crunch semi-final against Kerry,” said Mayor Logue.

“Hundreds of supporters availed of the special services for last week’s win over Cork and found it to be a safe and convenient way to travel between the two cities.

“These services cut out the stress and expense of parking in Dublin city centre and leave you off in Bus Aras and Dublin Connolly Train Station - a short walk from the ground.” David Cowan, Director of Commercial Operations at Translink, added:

“With large numbers of fans keen to travel for this high-profile semi-final game, we’re pleased to confirm details of additional bus and rail services to help facilitate safe and hassle-free travel.

“All tickets can be booked online in advance and in order to manage capacity, we would stress that passengers must travel on the specific service they have booked to ensure everyone travels home safely.”

Tickets are available online only at www.translink.co.uk/events.

Meanwhile fans travelling from Belfast can benefit from additional cross border services recently added to the timetable which are available via usual online booking methods.

All services operate a strict no smoking and no alcohol policy.

Match tickets are available online via Ticketmaster and at selected SuperValu and Centra stores.
