22 October 2026

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Grace Uí Niallais, visited Gaelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh this week to mark Love Your Library Day with pupils and staff.

An enthusiastic Irish speaker, the Mayor enjoyed spending time with the pupils, hearing about their love of reading and the important role books and storytelling play in their daily lives. As part of the visit, Mayor Uí Niallais joined younger pupils for a special storytelling session, followed by a tour of the school.

Speaking afterwards, the Mayor said:

“I was delighted to visit Gaelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh to celebrate Love Your Library Day. I am a huge supporter of our local libraries and the wide range of opportunities, resources and experiences they provide for communities. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading and storytelling among the pupils and to share that love of books with them.”
