12 February 2026

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, has praised the key community role played by the Rathmore 50+ Women’s Club.
Mayor McHugh visited the Creggan based initiative this week as part of his community initiative to highlight and recognise the work that takes place on the ground across the Council area by community and voluntary sector (CVS) groups.

The Rathmore group engage in a range of structured community development activities and opportunities aimed at developing their skills, knowledge and confidence.
The group’s work aims to address social isolation, anxiety, loneliness and promote social interaction and well-being.
“It was an absolute pleasure to be in the Moor Ward and visit the Rathmore 50+ Women’s Club to see first-hand the incredible work they are doing within the Creggan community,” said Mayor McHugh.
“I had the chance to hear about their activities and was struck by their strong sense of community, the group is not only enhancing wellbeing but also empowering members to remain active, connected and engaged.
“The Club is another shining example of the invaluable contribution our community and voluntary sector makes across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.”
Mayor McHugh will continue his initiative in the coming weeks with visits to the Sperrin Ward.
