Mayor visits Strabane Residential and Care Homes as part of special initiative

11 September 2026

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council visited Residential and Care Homes across Strabane this week, as part of her ongoing Mayoral Initiative throughout her year in office.

Mayor Grace Uí Niallais continued her commitment to connecting with older residents this week with a series of visits to care homes across the Strabane area as part of her mayoral Care Home Visits Initiative. Joined by the Hive Cancer Support Choir, the Mayor spent time meeting residents, listening to their stories and sharing a few hours of music, conversation and community spirit. Residents and staff enjoyed performances of well-loved classics, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere while providing opportunities to reminisce and celebrate shared memories.

Speaking after the visits, Mayor Uí Niallais said, "I was delighted to spend some quality time with residents and hear about their lives and experiences while enjoying some fabulous music from the HIVE Cancer Support Choir. These visits highlight the importance of companionship and community, while also shining a light on the exceptional work carried out by care home staff across the district. Thank you everyone who made us feel so welcome, we had a wonderful afternoon. I look forward to continuing my visits and getting out more throughout my year."
