Mayor welcomes Vertiv jobs investment

2 November 2023

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Patricia Logue has welcomed news that almost 200 jobs are to be created in Derry by engineering company Vertiv.

Vertiv makes equipment for data centres and has been in the northwest since 2021 when it bought E&I Engineering, a company founded by local man Philip O’Doherty, who now has a senior role at the firm.

The Mayor said the jobs investment was very good news for the local economy. She said a key element of the announcement was the establishment of an Assured Skills Academy, funded by InvestNI, that will assist in filling some of the roles by providing skills training in electrical and mechanical installation.

Mayor Logue said: “This is fantastic news for the city and region, and I would like to congratulate everyone involved in getting this over the line. I was delighted to hear the company say that they considered a number of locations, but Derry came out on top when it came to the quality of the local workforce and the cost competitive business environment. It is very positive to see an investment of this scale in the manufacturing sector in the Northwest and demonstrates the attraction of the North West City region as a location for investment for international companies.”
