To comply with Event Health and Safety arrangements for the St Patrick's Day Spring Carnival Parade all photographers and broadcast media who intend covering the events on Friday March 17th must register their details in advance.
Please provide your name, organisation and contact number by no later than midday on Thursday March 16th to the Council Press Office at [email protected].
All media providing photographic and broadcast coverage of the event will be requested to wear high visibility bibs and only those with the appropriate bibs will be allowed access along the main parade route.
If you need a bib, they can be collected from reception at Council's Strand Road offices before 5pm on Thursday March 16th and should be returned to the Guildhall after the parade or to Council Offices on Monday March 20th.
We would really appreciate if all bibs are returned as we have lost a high number of them at recent events.
This year's parade will depart from Bishop Street Car Park at 3pm and make its way down Shipquay Street finishing at Strand Road Car Park. Access for outside broadcast vehicles can be accommodated, providing adequate notice is given.
Event Information:
The theme of the city's parade is 'Recycle and Renewal'.
Traditional music and performances will take place from 1pm – 6pm in Guildhall Square, the Craft Village, the Guildhall’s Main Hall and the Peace Garden while there will also be interactive activities and arts and crafts in Waterloo Place.
The programme also features a 24 hour buskathon by local performers in Guildhall Square in aid of Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Councillor Sandra Duffy’s chosen charity First Housing Aid and Support Services.
Dance groups and other community organisations are coming together for the parade that will use the main elements of nature: fire, air, earth and water to creatively highlight the significance of recycling and reusing, reducing waste and the positive impact this can have on our environment for future generations.
